WHAT?
Introducing....... Green Elephant Day!
Friday 20th July 2012 at Lincoln Golf Centre, Thorpe-on-the-Hill, Lincoln
Green Elephant Day has been designed to show solidarity and support for our paramedic and nurse colleagues based at Lincoln Ambulance Station and Lincoln County Hospital, and also an intrepid group of Royal Air Force Cadets, who are travelling to Nyanza Province, Kenya in September to assist in a "hands on" aid program at Kisii Medical Camp. We aim to raise much needed funding for our colleagues to enable them to help an East African community in desperate need of the most basic of medical treatment and support that we in the UK take for granted. If you have any questions about Kisii Medical Camp you can email Laura, who will be happy to help.
Of course in order to raise money for Laura and the Kisii Medical Camp team we clearly needed to get organised. As part of the organising and planning phase, we co-opted people on to a special committee, which we call "The Task Force". The Task Force (Or should it be Tusk Force, get it?...Oh never mind!) is a multi-agency group involving staff from a number of NHS organisations and UK medical, aid agencies and charities all working together towards a common goal. Want to volunteer for Task Force duties? Then give us call as we'd love to hear from you.
So, a very deserving cause, and well organised, but how to raise some money? Being Golfers, it seemed that the logical thing to do would be to run a golf tournament. So we approached Brian, Rebecca and Paul at Lincoln Golf Centre having experienced their amazing hospitality a few years ago when they hosted an unforgetable ambulance charity tournament. We are very pleased to announce that Brian and his team have agreed to host Green Elephant Day 2012.
That's all very well, but I don't like golf? Well, don't worry about that, as here at Green Elephant HQ we have come up with just the solution. There will be other activities going on, besides golf, to keep you amused. In fact you could join the team and raise some money yourself by participating in an event of your choice, no matter how seemingly bizarre or ridiculous. As long as it is legal and won't cause offence, it is entirely up to you what you do. You could stand on one leg in a corner of a room all day if you like. Other ideas might be a bike ride, a run, or a walk ending up at the golf club for a well earned drink and a dance. You could even play darts all day if that's your thing. All we ask is that you register with our Activities Co-ordinator, Sharman. You can either Email Sharman or call her. Her further contact details are listed on the "Contact Task Force" page. Sharman will give you ideas, support and advice if you need it. You can then download a sponsor form, and off you jolly well go.
As well as people with their own fundraising activities, we also need a few volunteers to help run the day itself. Again, please contact one of the organisers listed on the "Contact Task Force" page if you can help.
We are also rather hoping to secure the services of several Rock n' Roll legends to entertain you into the night, however have been informed by one particular Rock God that it all depends on Glastonbury..........and if he can sell his ticket on or not. Fingers crossed then.
Finally, we would like to appeal for raffle donations particularly from the corporate and business sector. Raffle prizes can be either goods or services, and we would ask all our friends, families and colleagues to help us in this task. If anyone collects any Raffle prizes, can they can please email Jeni or Alison from the Event Hospitality Team to let them know what to expect, and they will either arrange collection or ask you to bring the prize on the day itself.
Email either one of us Dave or Tony if you need any help.
